Tuvo que esperar cuatro a\u00f1os para, despu\u00e9s de 28 trabajando como oficial mayor y secretario general del ayuntamiento santacrucero, le entregaran el honorable t\u00edtulo, concedido en reconocimiento a sus m\u00e9ritos profesionales y su dedicaci\u00f3n a la corporaci\u00f3n municipal chicharrera. Pero el bueno de <strong>Jos\u00e9 Eugenio De Z\u00e1rate<\/strong> fue imputado en la causa penal conocida como el \u201ccaso Las Teresitas\u201d. Con su conciencia m\u00e1s que tranquila, tuvo que ir a Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y sentarse en el banquillo ante tres mujeres; la jueza, <strong>Carla Bellini<\/strong>, la fiscal, <strong>Mar\u00eda Farn\u00e9s<\/strong>, y la secretaria. El a\u00f1o 2008 <strong>Jos\u00e9 Eugenio<\/strong> se jubil\u00f3 por obligaci\u00f3n al cumplir 70 a\u00f1os y se retir\u00f3 con la \u201ccruz\u201d de seguir imputado.
