Cuando le llamaron para ello quiso renunciar aludiendo a que llevaba poco tiempo volando el Boeing 737 y su director de operaciones le pregunt\u00f3 que cu\u00e1nto tiempo m\u00e1s necesitaba. <strong>Guillermo<\/strong> le dijo que un a\u00f1o y el instructor le respondi\u00f3 <em>\u201cVale, tienes un mes para comenzar el curso de primer piloto\u201d.<\/em> Pronto estuvo suelto y continu\u00f3 volando el Boeing 737 durante la friolera de 18 a\u00f1os. Luego el Airbus A330 en vuelos trasatl\u00e1nticos durante unos 6 a\u00f1os y finalmente hace unos d\u00edas ha completado de forma exitosa su habilitaci\u00f3n como comandante para volar el moderno y espectacular y seguro Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en sus versiones 8 y 9, teniendo que pasar la inspecci\u00f3n final volando, precisamente, a su querida isla de Tenerife y luego un ida y vuelta a Sao Paulo. A lo largo de este periplo de 34 a\u00f1os, que <strong>Jos\u00e9 Guillermo Hern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> ha pasado volando, he acumulado unas 20.500 horas de vuelo.
