La traves\u00eda siempre consiste en volar una l\u00ednea denominada ortodr\u00f3mica que es la l\u00ednea m\u00e1s recta, siguiendo la curvatura de la tierra. Los c\u00e1lculos que realiz\u00f3 <strong>Lindbergh<\/strong> para su plan de vuelo, le llevaron a aparecer en la costa irlandesa con un m\u00ednimo error en la posici\u00f3n prevista, luego continu\u00f3 costeando hacia Par\u00eds. <strong>Lindbergh<\/strong> tard\u00f3 la friolera de 33 horas y 32 minutos saliendo desde Nueva York. Su velocidad media fue de 214 kil\u00f3metros por hora. Portaba un motor Wright Whirlwind J-5C de 223 CV. El vuelo obviamente, se realiz\u00f3 a mano y sin automatismos y fue todo un hito, m\u00e1s hoy, una aut\u00e9ntica leyenda. <strong>Lindbergh<\/strong> cre\u00eda que era mejor realizar el vuelo con un \u00fanico motor. Pensaba que un avi\u00f3n con dos o tres motores ser\u00eda m\u00e1s propenso a tener fallos en alguno de ellos, no permitiendo la continuaci\u00f3n de su vuelo debido al peso.
